Maharashtra’s Culture Comes Alive in Berlin as ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’ Echoes Across the City

Mumbai, 28th September, Mumbai/Berlin (GNI) :– The vibrant colours of Indian culture came alive in Berlin, the capital of Germany, as Ganesh Utsav was celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm. As chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya” and “Mangalmurti Morya” echoed through the streets of Berlin, the atmosphere turned deeply devotional. Members of the Indian diaspora, particularly families with roots in Maharashtra, participated enthusiastically in the grand celebrations, bringing the traditional cultural spirit of Maharashtra to foreign shores.

The enthusiasm of the Indian community was evident throughout the festivities. Men, women and children were seen dressed in traditional Maharashtrian attire, including the nauvari sari, kurta-pyjama and saffron pheta. A grand procession made its way through the streets, with people dancing energetically to the beats of dhols and traditional drums. The sounds of traditional musical instruments and the vibrant Lezim dance also captivated local German residents, many of whom were seen capturing the unique cultural celebration on their cameras.

The newly constructed Shri Ganesh Temple in Berlin was the main centre of this year’s festivities. Special and elaborate religious programmes were organised at the new temple complex to welcome Lord Ganesha. The Maha Aarti, one of the main highlights of the celebrations, was attended by India’s Ambassador to Germany, Ajit Gupte, and his wife, Preeti Gupte. They offered prayers to Lord Ganesha and wished for happiness, prosperity and peace in India and around the world.

The Embassy of India in Germany wrote on social media platform ‘X’ on September 27, “Amb Ajit Gupte and Mrs Priti Gupte attended the Maha Aarti at newly-built Ganesha Temple in Berlin on 25 Sept 2026. A lively cultural programme with traditional dances and music by young Indian diaspora, preceded the Maha Aarti. Hundreds of Indian diaspora and German friends participated.”

Such celebrations serve not only to keep the Indian diaspora connected with its roots, but also to introduce younger generations growing up abroad to Indian culture and values. The festivities emerged as a remarkable symbol of unity and cultural pride among the Indian community living in Berlin.eom GNI
