200 LINK SQUARE SHOP OWNERS TO PROTEST, DEMAND ANSWERS FROM ZEESHAN SIDDIQUE

Mumbai, 24th August 2026 (GNI): 16 Months After Devastating Fire, Businesses Remain Shut; Shop Owners Say Their Patience Has Run Out

Nearly 200 shop owners and small businessmen of Link Square Mall will come together in a collective protest on Monday, demanding answers, accountability and immediate action from Zeeshan Siddique and the mall management over the continuing closure of their businesses.

Sixteen months after the devastating April 2025 fire, hundreds of livelihoods continue to remain at a standstill.

Shop owners say they have suffered crippling financial losses, mounting liabilities and prolonged uncertainty, with many unable to restart businesses that were their primary source of income.

They will publicly raise questions over:

  • Why has Link Square Mall still not reopened?
  • What is the present structural status of the building?
  • Why have the required repairs and restoration not been completed?
  • Who will take responsibility for the mounting financial losses suffered by shop owners?
  • What is the position regarding BMC property-tax liabilities?
  • What management and society-related hurdles are preventing owners from returning to their shops?
  • When will nearly 200 affected businesses finally be given a clear roadmap for reopening?

The shop owners said that after waiting for more than a year, they no longer want assurances — they want answers, accountability and a definite timeline.

At the protest, affected businessmen will speak directly to the media about their losses, their attempts to seek resolution and the circumstances that, according to them, continue to keep their establishments shut.

Relevant structural reports, property-tax records, correspondence and other documents will be shared with the media for independent examination and verification.

Nearly 200 businesses. Sixteen months without work. One question: When will Link Square reopen?
The media is requested to join the collective protest and hear the affected shop owners speak for themselves.ends GNI
