Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital Navi Mumbai Launches Diabetic Foot Clinic on National Diabetes Month

Navi Mumbai, November 25, 2024 (GNI) : Diabetes can lead to foot complications due to poor circulation, nerve damage, and a reduced ability to heal. Injuries can progress to ulcers and infections that heal with difficulty or not at all. Without timely specialized care, even minor foot problems can give rise to serious complications, potentially resulting in severe infections and in some cases even requiring amputation of the limb. To help prevent this, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital Navi Mumbai has launched a state-of-the-art Diabetic Foot Clinic to provide patients with diabetes proper care for any foot condition. The clinic was inaugurated on the occasion of National Diabetes Month in November.

In India, almost every fourth person is diabetic, nearly 12–25% of individuals with diabetes are prone to developing diabetic foot ulcers, and of the existing population of diabetic foot, approximately 15–18% lose their limbs. A major cause of amputations is a lack of awareness about proper treatment. This is increasing at a significant speed.

A first-of-its-kind multispecialty clinic, the Diabetic Foot Clinic will provide preventive care, enable early detection with advanced treatment strategies to manage and mitigate the risks associated with diabetic foot problems. A multidisciplinary team of endocrinologists, neurologists, diabetic foot specialists, and wound care experts will work together to provide personalized care plans tailored to each patient’s needs, proactively reducing the risk of serious complications and helping to preserve a patient’s mobility and quality of life.

The comprehensive services at the Diabetic Foot Clinic offers will include advanced computerized foot evaluations using tools like Paedopodogram, Biothesiometry, and Doppler studies. Customized footwear services will be available to reduce pressure and prevent injuries. Expert wound evaluation and management will promote healing for foot wounds or ulcers, with state-of-the-art dressing solutions.

For severe cases, the clinic will offer surgical and interventional solutions such as bypass surgeries, leg vessel balloon angioplasties, stenting, laser surgery, ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy, radiofrequency ablation, and ulcer shaving with skin cover. These procedures aim to restore circulation and facilitate healing. Amputee support will also be provided, with advice and prosthetic limb fitting to enable mobility.

The Diabetic Foot Clinic will operate every Thursday from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Patients can schedule appointments by contacting the hospital.ends GNI
