20 years of Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2020

MUMBAI, 5th February 2020: Mumbai is set to host a power packed season of Lakmé Fashion Week, a premier platform that lauds and encourages fashion innovations in the country. Continuing its 20th anniversary celebrations, the season will be an amalgamation of fresh, emerging talent and the biggest and most established names in the fashion industry, setting an unparalleled benchmark in inclusivity, sustainability, creativity and diversity.

Designers like Manish Arora, Ritu Kumar, Shivan and Narresh, Samant Chauhan, Gauri and Nainika, Payal Singhal,  Anand Kabra, Pankaj and Nidhi, Rina Singh, Kunal Rawal and Amit Aggarwal among many others will present breathtaking collections from 12th – 16th February 2020 at JioWorld Garden, Bandra-Kurla Complex with an opening show on 11th February dedicated to Gen Next alumni.

Since inception, Lakmé Fashion Week has strived to nurture and promote young talent, taken the lead on the digital front, been at the helm of initiating conversations on beauty and inclusivity and continues to excel through innovation as a global fashion platform as it embarks on LFW 2.0.

Lakmé Fashion Week takes forward its pursuit to recognize new and emerging talent through home-grown platforms like the Gen Next programme that will give four new designers the chance to showcase their creations this season.

International hair and make-up artists Marianna Mukuchyan and Daniel Bauer will once again enthral audiences with her magical strokes at the upcoming season of Lakmé Fashion Week.

v  AMIT AGGARWAL AS THE LAKMÉ ABSOLUTE GRAND FINALE DESIGNER

Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/ Resort 2020 season finale will witness futuristic designer Amit Aggarwal bringing to life #BetterIn3D inspired by Lakmé newest 3D range and theme. #BetterIn3D is all about bringing out the new dimension in you which is synonymous with Amit’s design sensibilities and ethos.

The collection will be an embodiment of his signature style of futuristic biomimicry that encourages one to think beyond the present. The designs will be symbolic of the modern woman who is strong yet gentle. Razor-sharp constructions will meet intricate patterns using unusual polymers woven into a fabric to create 3D forms through embroidery.

v  REMINISCING THE GEN NEXT JOURNEY – OPENING SHOW

TRENDS PRESENTS 20 YEARS OF LAKME FASHION WEEK #CELEBRATINGLFWGENNEXT

Kickstarting the five-day fashion extravaganza, the opening show will pay tribute to Gen Next designers over the years. 30 Gen Next designers who made their start in the fashion industry though the coveted designer discovery programme, will present modernized representation of an iconic look from their debut collection.

v  AMPING THE ANTE WITH OFFSITE SHOWS

Highlighting the city, it has called home since 2006, Lakmé Fashion Week will mesmerize audiences and leave them wanting more with an offsite show in addition to the finale. For the first time ever, the iconic Bandra Sea Link Promenade Garden will be host to Kunal Rawal’s special sunset showcase.

v  INITIATIVES THAT WALK THE TALK

Spearheading conversations and giving its audience food for thought, Lakmé Fashion Week will also open itself up as a forum for interesting discussions and action. For the first time ever, Ananya Pandey will address cyber bullying in an interactive session with Anaita Shroff Adajania through her SoPositive movement while Manish Malhotra will be part of The Voice of Fashion session on Questions No One Asks. PETA will launch an exclusive campaign on vegan fashion while shows, designs, concepts and talks will weave positivity through the season.

v  INIFD PRESENTS GEN NEXT SHOW

INIFD will once again be the official knowledge partner and present the most coveted Gen Next program at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2020. The four labels making their debut are AKHL, ALL2DEFY, GRAINE and CHANDRIMA. INIFD will also host a special show for the winners of the nationwide talent search called INIFD LaunchPad.

v  SUSTAINABLE FASHION DAY

Since 2012, Lakmé Fashion Week has spearheaded conversations on preserving and promoting Indian handlooms and textiles, championing sustainable fashion as the fashion of the future. Every season, the platform takes pride in reviving indigenous crafts and bringing artisans to the fore through strong and powerful initiatives and programmes.

This season, Eká comes together with the Telangana State Handloom Weavers Co-operative Society (TSCO) to showcase a collection to spotlight the handloom clusters from Narayanpet, Mahadevpura & Pochampally. The collaboration presents traditional textiles from Telangana in a new light and enables #GlobalisingTelaganaHandlooms through this showcase
Making way for a new perspective on ‘Sustainability’, Ritu Kumar is set to foray into the world of environment-friendly creations with a showcase of her AW’20 collection at the finale of Sustainable Fashion Day. Ritu Kumar is partnering with the Austrian fibre brand, LENZING™ ECOVERO™ to create iconic laid out prints with the aim to provide trend-setting styles made of sustainable viscose fibre
 

v THE ATELIER

This Summer/Resort edition of Lakmé Fashion Week will witness a new dedicated space called ‘The Atelier’ which will have experiential settings and layouts suited to each show. The Atelier will be the canvas for interesting shows such as Gen Next Alumni Opening Show, Chola, Manish Arora, Jade by Karishma and Monica among others.

v  REDUCING CARBON FOOTPRINT

Besides initiatives at Sustainable Fashion Day, this season LFW will be looking at the environment in a more conscious manner on ground. LFW will be initiating a pilot project to go paperless by introducing e-invites. Lakmé Fashion Week in association with Sankalp Taru foundation will initiate a campaign ‘TREES OF LFW’ to reduce carbon footprint through the planting of trees in various farmlands across Maharashtra. And the new and improved Showroom will have its display areas made of Sustainable material. The offsite show will take place at the Sea Link Promenade Garden which is a carbon neutral Garden.

INIFD GenNext:

INIFD will once again be the official knowledge partner and will be providing a platform to four young designers to showcase their collection at LFW under GenNext designer. The show will be on Day 1 of LFW at 12:00 P.M.

INIFD Lanchpad:

INIFD Launchpad is a platform for young and aspiring Fashion and Interior Students. Through the program 5 Fashion and 5 Interior winners were selected to showcase at Day 1 of LFW at  3:00 P.M. The set designing of the Gen Next show will also be done by the Interior Design Winners.

Paying homage to #beautifullystrong women across India, Lupin Life’s Corcal Bone & Beauty, a health supplement for women, has collaborated with Payal Singhal on 15th February at 7:00 P.M. at The Runway. The show will bring strong and beautiful women to walk the ramp through an online audition portraying woman of strength. 5 lucky winners from the online contest will get a chance to walk the ramp.

Reebok Zig Kinetica and Chola to come together to launch a striking new collection for people from all walks of life who will be walking for the show. This show will be full of energy and a special act with an ace group of dancers. This show will happen on
