MUMBAI, (GNI);  ‘Run for Vatan’, the first mini-marathon organized by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited was held today at Marine Drive, Mumbai. The event in which over 2000 persons participated was flagged off by Arvind Sawant Member Of Parliament – South Mumbai0the Chief Guest, Rear Admiral (Retd) R.K. Shrawat, Chairman and Managing Director Mazagon Dock Shipbuildesr Ltd and Ms Shaina NC- the Guest of Honour at wee hours.

The mini-marathon was conducted as per directive of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, conveyed through the Ministry of Defence, to create a patriotic mood across the country.

Radm R K Shrawat, Chairman & Managing Director, Mazagon Dock Limited, in his address said that the very  purpose of celebrating  Republic Day has been forgotten over the years. An event like this will reignite the spark to celebrate Republic Day with the pride and grandeur that it deserves. He also said that one must re-read the preamble of our constitution to fully understand and thereby to uphold the provisions therein.  A run would be the ideal way of infusing patriotism in the youth.

The Run which was flagged off on Marine Drive near the Air India Building ended at the same place after a turn-around at the Mafatlal Bath swimming pool.
