Maharashtra Governor flags off Terry Fox Run for Hope at Marine Drive

MUMBAI, 02nd February 2020 (GNI): Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari flagged off the ‘Terry Fox Run For Hope’, a non-competitive run at Marine Drive in Mumbai on Sunday (2 Feb). Thousands of citizens and school and college students participated in the Run, which is organized to create awareness about cancer and raise funds for cancer research. Convenor of the Terry Fox Run Gul Kripalani and fitness expert Micky Mehta and others were present. Terry Fox was a young Canadian boy, diagnosed with Bone Cancer in his right leg, who ran from the East Coast of Canada to the West Coast to create awareness about the fatal disease. He succumbed to his illness in 1980. ENDS

राज्यपाल भगतसिंह कोश्यारी यांनी कर्करोग जनजागृती व संशोधनाच्या हेतूने आयोजित ‘टेरी फॉक्स रन फॉर होप’ या मॅराथॉनचा मरीन ड्राईव्ह, मुंबई येथे शुभारंभ केला. या दौडमध्ये नागरिकांसह हजारो शालेय तसेच महाविद्यालयीन विद्यार्थ्यांनी भाग घेतला. स्पर्धेचे संयोजक गुल कृपलानी, फिटनेस तज्ञ मिकी मेहता तसेच इतर नामांकित व्यक्ति यावेळी उपस्थित होते. टेरी फॉक्स या अस्थींच्या कर्करोगाने ग्रासलेल्या कॅनडाच्या युवकाने कर्करोगापुढे शरणागती न पत्करता कर्करोग संशोधनासाठी आयुष्याच्या अखेरपर्यंत निधी संकलन केले. त्यांच्या स्मृतीनिमित्त ‘टेरी फॉक्स रन’ आयोजित केली जाते.ends
