Navi Mumbai, 11 Aug. 2019 ((GNI): On 15th August 2019, India will celebrate its Independence Day to pay tribute and remember all the freedom fighters that had contributed a lot and fought for the Independence of India. Laxmi Eye Institute, Panvel who offering comprehensive and superior eye care services from last 3 decades will conduct 72 free cataract surgeries on cataract patient from Thane & Raigad rural zone. After 72 years India has been achieved many things and have gone through several victorious changes over the years. Indians have witnessed major changes in their lives, but life in several rural parts of the country is yet to get better healthcare facilities at their doorstep. The prevalence of blindness due to cataract is higher among those in lower socio economic status. To address this problem Government of India is doing a lot of work, while Laxmi Eye Institute and Laxmi Charitable Trust are also contributing a great deal by providing eye treatment for poor people in the form of advanced eye care services such as cataract operations and eye banking. On this occasion Dr. Suhas Haldipurkar, Medical Director -Laxmi Eye Institute said, “There is also an economic cost associated with vision impairment for the nation: globally, poor vision results in an economic productivity loss in billions! In a further study exclusively among Indian workers, the WHO concluded that good eye care and vision correction led to an increase by over 32% in their incomes and by over 26% in productivity. On the occasion of Independence Day our entire team will celebrate “Freedom from Blindness” mission, where we will operate XX cataract patients from lower socio economic background. We want to spread awareness about this urgent problem, and request members of society to support us in this endeavour.” Laxmi Charitable Trust is actively working on various projects to achieve the above mentioned goal. Many philanthropic individuals and organizations have joined us in this journey. Over all these years we were able to conduct more than 1687 camps in rural areas and could perform more than 72053 free cataract surgeries for poor and needy people in the District of Raigad and Thane.
