MUMBAI, 26th January 2020 (GNI): The Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari unfurled the National Flag and inspected the ceremonial parade on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Republic of India at the State function held at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Sunday 26th January 2020.
Governor’s Address in Marathi: In a pleasant surprise for all, Governor Koshyari delivered his Republic Day message in Marathi.
In his Republic Day address, Governor Koshyari expressed the resolve of the Government to expedite the work of construction of memorial of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, conservation of forts, speeding up of the work of construction of memorial for Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar, launch of Shiv Bhojan Yojana, strengthening of women’s self help groups, creation of a museum of Indian theatre, commencement of the work of Nariman Point – Worli Coastal Road, starting Sports Excellence Centres in tribal areas, starting Chief Minister Secretariat Cells in all divisional offices.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Smt Rashmi Thackeray, Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh, Members of Parliament Rahul Shewale and Anil Desai, people’s representatives, diplomats from various countries, senior officers of the Armed Forces, Police and Administrative Service, retired officers and citizens were present on the occasion.
Disciplined columns of the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Mumbai Armed Police, Mumbai Riot Control Police, State Reserve Police Force, C -60 unit of Gadchiroli and Gondia districts, Mumbai Riot Control Police, Mumbai Fire Brigade, Sea Cadets, Scouts and Guide and others presented a March Past on the occasion.
Floats of Slum Rehabilitation Authority Housing, MMRDA Mumbai Metro, and the one on the life of the First Admiral of Swarajya Sarkhel Kanhoji Angre also participated in the parade.ends
