MUMBAI, (GNI): India Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Ongo app at the inauguration of e-rickshaws in Lucknow today.  PM Modi made the first ever e-payment to an e-rickshaw driver using the Ongo app for his ride at the event.

Ongo app is developed by India Transact Services Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AGS Transact Technologies Ltd, the leading banking payment solution provider in the country.

Ongo app had a pilot launch in September 2015 and is already being used byapproximately 15,000 Mumbai auto rickshaw drivers for cashless payments. The app aims to simplify the travel experience for both commuters and drivers by eliminating the need to keep loose change or cash at all. Also, the app enables auto rickshaw drivers to fill gas in their autorickshaw by using a prepaid card which was given to them as part of the program.

Speaking about the event, Ravi B Goyal, Chairman and Managing Director of AGS Transact Technologies Limited said, “We are honoured that Ongo was the first official app used for transaction by Honourable PM Modiji to enable e-payments on e-rickshaws.It clearly highlights the government’s emphasis on the adoption of technology at the grass root level and we are happy that we could provide the platform for this vision.”

He further added, the e-rickshaws in itself is a revolutionary idea and combined with the option to pay using the Ongo app makes it truly an extraordinary experience.”
