Mumbai, 12th October 2020 (GNI): With an objective to attain sustainability in the sector, The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) commenced its 2nd phase of environment lecture series on 9th October 2020 on a virtual platform.  The tri-lecture series aims to disseminate knowledge on the industry landscape concerning to BS-VI norms from a lens of policies, regulations, principles, concepts, design, technology, pollution prevention, and climate change.

The lecture primarily focused on the key takeaways of the Indian auto industry with regards to BS-VI emissions norms mandated from 1st April 2020. It provided an overview of challenges and innovative solutions the industry developed during its journey towards migration to BS VI.

The lecture panel comprised of industry veterans like Mr Girish Ramaswamy (Head of System Engineering, Continental Automotive Components), Ms Pamela Tikku (Sr. GM & Chief Business Officer, International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), Mr Sudipto Basu (Executive Director, Emission Controls Manufacturers Association (ECMA), Dr Venkat Srinivas (Sr. VP & Head – Product Development, Mahindra & Mahindra) and Mr Harjeet Singh (Executive Advisor, Hero MotoCorp), who deliberated on the following topics:

The session focused on planning and execution and the need of having an affordable, safer and environmentally benign indigenous research solution. The panellists jointly agreed that for a cleaner environment and to regulate the output of air pollutants from the internal combustion engine and spark-ignition engine equipment, BS VI emissions is a huge step forward.

Mr Prashant K Banerjee (Executive Director, SIAM), said “The Indian auto industry has worked dedicatedly in alliance with the government to implement BS-VI in the record time, thereby bringing Indian  emission norms at par with the international standards. SIAM has been continuously working towards creating a better tomorrow and building the nation responsibly. Further reinforcing our commitment SIAM, yet again, is happy to be able to provide a stage to bring the Industry stakeholders together.”
