Actor Fatima Sana Shaikh Donates Vegan Biryani to 1000 People in Delhi Through PETA India and Little India Foundation in Celebration of Eid

Delhi, 27th June 2023 (GNI): In the lead-up to Eid ul-Adha, actor Fatima Sana Shaikh has donated delicious and healthy vegan biryani, made with GoodDot Pro Chaap and served with alt foods’ plant-based chocolate milk, through People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India and Little India Foundation to 1000 people in need at the Bengali Basti in Vasant Kunj. Fatima will next be seen in Sam Bahadur and Dhak Dhak.

“I’m delighted to observe Eid ul-Adha with my friends at PETA India,” says Fatima, who is vegetarian. “By distributing vegan biryani to those in need, we aim to spread kindness and good health.”

Vegetarian and Vegan Muslims – and many others – celebrate Eid ul-Adha by distributing vegan food or helping those in need in ways that do not involve animals, over concerns about animal welfare, human health, and the environment. That’s because, in defiance of animal-transport laws, many animals slated for sacrifice and other methods of slaughter are crammed into severely crowded trucks, which routinely causes suffocation and broken bones. During sacrifice and when they are killed in slaughterhouses, animals’ throats are typically cut open in full view of other terrified animals. The consumption of meat and other animal-derived foods also hurts human health and has been conclusively linked to heart disease, strokes, diabetes, cancer, and obesity. A United Nations report concluded that a global shift towards vegan eating is necessary to combat the worst effects of the climate catastrophe.

“It is commanded unto us to eat what is halal and tayyib, which means food that is not only lawful but also wholesome and ethically sourced. And by no means is meat today produced ethically,” says PETA India Advocacy Officer Farhat Ul Ain. “Muslims, like members of all communities, are increasingly going vegan to save others’ lives and our own,” stated in a press release.

PETA India – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETAIndia.com or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.ends GNI
