Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai Achieves Milestone of Performing 53 Successful Paediatric Liver Transplants, Enters JV with Bombay Hospital to Boost Liver Transplants in Mumbai

MUMBAI, 18 OCTOBER, 2022 (GNI): Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai on Tuesday hosted an event at the St. Regis Mumbai to announce the Milestone Achievement of Successfully Performing 53 Paediatric Liver Transplants within 5 Years and it’s having entered in to a Joint Venture with the Bombay Hospital to boost liver transplants in Mumbai and Western India. A MOU was signed to mark this occasion.

The collaboration with Bombay Hospital will increase access to Apollo’s advanced liver transplant program for patients across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Apollo has already entered into 11 such agreements, where it will provide its expertise, technology, training, post-operative care and guidance on liver transplant.

Apollo also announced that it will be expanding the scope of liver transplant programmes in Maharashtra and Gujarat under the clinical lead of Darius Mirza, an internationally renowned hepato-pancreato-biliary transplant surgeon.

The liver transplant programme of Apollo will be administered through Navi Mumbai super-specialty quaternary care hospital that on Wednesday has completed 53 life-saving paediatric liver transplant surgeries.

The hospital has undertaken a total 170 liver cases as on date of which 34 are cadaver and 12 are international.

Apollo Hospitals supported many under-privelged liver transplant patients through significant fundraising initiatives through tie-ups with financial-aid programs and NGOs.

The landmark was achieved in five years giving a new lease of life to children suffering from end-stage liver disease. The ages of the transplant recipients ranged from a 4-month infant to older children with conditions that included biliary atresia and congenital liver disease leading to liver failure.

“Apollo performs 15% of India’s liver transplants every year and is a pioneer in solid organ transplants. With an experience over 3 decades in transplants, which include 4,051 livers, Apollo has served patients from over 50 countries,” said Preetha Reddy, executive vice chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Group.

Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai is a JCI accredited 500 beds quaternary care hospital. The Hospital runs a very successful Transplant program covering Liver, Kidney & Heart. The transplant program is led by a multi-disciplinary team of qualified & experienced clinicians having undertaken significant liver & HPB work.Ends
