AM/NS India partners with National Skill Development Corporation

to offer digital training

  • ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) partners with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) on International Youth Day
  • AM/NS India to sponsor vocational training for 800 youths from Maharashtra and other parts of the country.

New Delhi, 12 August 2021 (GNI):  ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) – a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel – today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to provide digital skill training to more than 800 young people from Maharashtra and other parts of the country.

The partnership coincides with International Youth Day, dedicated to the role young women and men play in driving change in addressing global issues and achieving sustainable development. The special day also raises awareness of challenges facing the world’s youth.

This is the second skills training initiative announced by AM/NS India in the past month following an MoU with the Government Industrial Training Institute, Barbil, in Odisha, to provide tools and learning to students interested in careers in the Indian steel and mining industry.

Under the partnership with the NSDC, a public-private-partnership organisation working under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; AM/NS India will financially sponsor digital skill training for eligible candidates in four states – Gujarat, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh – over the next year, as part of the company’s CSR programme. The initiative aims to motivate youths and equip them for both, jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities in areas such as Customer Service, Telecalling, Data Entry, etc.

Mr Dilip Oommen, Chief Executive Officer, AM/NS India, said: “We are pleased to be collaborating with the NSDC for such a timely endeavour which is in line with Digital India initiative. India has the world’s youngest population who deserve an adequate training ecosystem in place to be able to truly flourish and deliver on their promise, a crucial component of which is digital skilling. Such a support system requires collaboration between government, industry and responsible corporate citizens.”

Mr Ved Mani Tiwari, Chief Operating Officer, NSDC, commented: “This partnership with AM/NS India will provide momentum for large-scale participation by private players in skill development. With the promised resources, NSDC will conduct digital learning sessions to train young students from various backgrounds. This will enable them to become valuable members of the workforce,” stated in the press release.

The program on the partnership was held virtually from Delhi, with participants included- Prakash Sharma, Chief Financial Officer; Vandana Bhatnagar, Chief Program Officer, NSDC; Shingo Nakamura, Deputy Director, HR & Administration; Vikas Yadvendu, Head, Corporate Social Responsibility; and Sangeeta Munjal, Head, Corporate Affairs from AM/NS India, among others.ends
