FDCI X LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK TO CELEBRATE SUSTAINABLE FASHION ON 18th MARCH

National, 11th March 2021 (GNI):  Overtheyears, Lakmé Fashion Week, Rise Worldwide and Fashion Design Council of India have undertaken numerous initiatives highlighting the benefits of Sustainable Fashion & its impact on social & environmental issues. This season, the powerhouses of fashion & beauty in India -Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW) jointly organised by Lakmé & RISE Worldwide (formerly IMG Reliance); and Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) will be hosting leather-free Sustainable Fashion Day on 18th March at the joint Fashion Week.

THE SHOWCASES SCHEDULED ON SFD AT FDCI x LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK ARE:

4PM – R|ELANTM PRESENTS CIRCULAR DESIGN CHALLENGE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME

Circular Design Challenge (CDC) is India’s largest sustainable fashion award presented by R|ElanTM “Fashion for Earth” in association with and United Nations Environment Programme. In its third edition, the program will see six shortlisted, innovative fashion entrepreneurs competing for the award through a pitch presentation before an esteemed panel. The panel will see Indian and internationals veterans of sustainability including Mr.Atul Bagai – Head Country Office India UNEP, Mr.Giulio Bonazzi – CEO Aquafil, Ms. Dia Mirza – Actor, Producer, Advocate – United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Goodwill Ambassador – United Nations Environment Programme, Ms.Orsola De Castro – Cofounder Fashion Revolution & Mr. Amit Aggarwal – Creative Director Amit Aggarwal. The winner will be felicitated with a 20-lakh cash prize, presented by R|ElanTM to build their sustainable fashion brand and get to showcase at the next edition of the fashion event. This edition will also see an additional recognition, R|ElanTM Award for Excellence in Circularity, to one of the finalists for outstanding innovation in circular fashion.

5PM – PETA INDIA PRESENTS KILLER LOOKS WITHOUT KILLING ANIMALS

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India continues its collaboration with Sustainable Fashion Day by showcasing a lookbook of a conscious, leather-free wardrobe by curating multiple brands. The lookbook features a day in the life of two of PETA India’s ambassadors, in a variety of vegan outfits, for date night, office wear, leisure, and athleisure, highlighting the fact that it’s easy to have a killer look without killing animals for fashion. Some of the brands featured here will include Urvashi Kaur, Outhouse, Papa Don’t Preach, Kunal Anil Tanna, Jenjum Gadi, No Nasties, and more. PETA India and Fashion Design Council of India x Lakmé Fashion Week will also be launching an Instagram filter to encourage audience members to go leather-free in their fashion choices.

6PM – COCCCON A CIRCULAR STORY OF PEACE SILK

Purn vritt is the latest avantgarde collection by Indo-German designer duo Prakash and Georg for the label Cocccon. The collection will resemble the indigenous performing art of Jharkhand which speaks about conflict between circular (jeevan chakra) and linear (jeevan rekha) lifestyle. The collection is made of materials which are biodegradable and have no trace of negative impact on mother earth. The principal material is organically produced peace silk, where silkworm completes their full life cycle and become beautiful butterflies. Sericulture is performed under strict organic procedures, including zero carbon measures. Patterns of this collection are made using zero waste techniques. This collection is plastic free (crude oil free) in terms of auxiliaries. Materials such as Silicon/ plastic boning, polyester mesh can-can, chemical adhesive-based fusing, pasting etc. are avoided, and instead alternative materials are used from natural resources like bamboo or cane. Project Cocccon is GOTS, WFTO, OCS certified and won German Sustainability Award Design 2021.

7PM – RISE WORLDWIDE PRESENTS ALL ABOUT INDIA FEATURING – CHOLA | HUEMN | KHANIJO

Taking forward its initiative from last season, RISE Worldwide introduces the second edition of ‘All About India’, a project that not only bring about designer & cluster collaborations to revive crafts but also curates designer showcases with out of the box creative concepts. Three designers, namely, Chola, Heumn, Khanijo through this showcase will be seen breaking stereotypes assigned to sustainable fashion: of it being boring, of it lacking style, of it lacking glamour and so on. The film will highlight processes & techniques that make sustainable fashion not just fair to the people & the planet but also stand for style (everlasting even), statement, conversation starters, glamourous and everything that it generally not associated with ethical fashion.

8PM – PAYAL PRATAP

Payal’s collection that is titled ‘View With A Room’ is almost whimsical, a fantasy. It is a collection born over this past year reflecting, internalizing, celebrating the good in us.  And viewing what lies ahead with positivity. Shades of Plum, Deep purple, Midnight navy, Fuschia, Ruby, Petrol and Coffee, Auburn Autumn and Ochre make up the rich color palette.  As the dusk settles, the night comes, and we begin anew.  A collection that heralds the oncoming of a new dawn. Maxi dresses, wrap dresses, saree dresses, riddled with peplum sleeves, gathers, smocking and handwoven details.  Handloom wool stripe and check jackets peppered with embroideries. Cross stitch embroideries, hand embroidered sequin highlights make an appearance. Vibrant floral prints print on print layering is accessorized with embroidered and hand-made wool felt boots. Opaque stockings, wool handloom scarves, wood buttons, gold plated hand beaten bangles, hand beaten gold plated loop earrings, and handmade wool felt boots accessorize this collection.

9PM – TRESemmé PRESENTS RITU KUMAR

Steeped in craftsmanship and blended with modern silhouettes which is a signature of the brand, Ritu Kumar will be showcasing her Spring Summer 2021 collection in collaboration with TRESemmé. The collection reflects modern minimalism with a bohemian culture and includes yarn dyes, mix and match of floral prints, patchwork with different laces, geometric designs and organic sarees. Sustainability is woven into the DNA of Ritu Kumar and has always been at the forefront of everything the brand undertakes. Each collection over the years has included pieces crafted out of fibres that are as close to nature as possible. Ritu Kumar’s endeavour has been to continuously expand the horizons for innovative and sustainable solutions. In sync with the same, Ritu Kumar’s Spring Summer 2021 showcase presents organic soya fabric sarees that are environmentally friendly and close to nature.​
