SelfV survivor Harteij Bhartesh
MUMBAI, July 06th 2019, (GNI): Cancer survivors are those who have won the war against cancer and continue to inspire us to overcome our challenges. As a way of recognising their grit and determination, HCG – The specialist in cancer care started the SelfV campaign in the year 2014 with an intent to celebrate the cancer survivors by providing them a unique platform to share their spirit of winning over cancer. To participate in the campaign, the survivors recorded a 60-90 second video of their journey through it all. A panel of judges was asked to look at the videos and choose the most inspiring stories. Every year since inception, HCG has recognized these survivors by felicitating them.
For the year 2019, the winner is Mr Harteij Bhartesh, for his extremely inspiring story of not only beating cancer but also doing his part in creating awareness about the disease. He is a corporate employee, a biker and crusader against cancer. He does bike rides all over the country with the aim of spreading awareness about cancer and encouraging people to keep a check on their lifestyle and get periodic health examinations.
Mr. Harteij Bhartesh, winner of SelfV 2019 said, “I am very pleased to be chosen as the winner of the SelfV competition and the bike is a gift that I am going to cherish for a long time. I wanted to break the taboo around cancer and spread awareness that cancer is just an incident in life, not life itself. This was one of the main reasons I started ‘Ride of Hope’. I hope I can continue to spread as much positivity as I can.”
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Shamim Ahmed, COO, HCG – South Mumbai, said, “As a forerunner in oncology, it is our duty to provide with the best possible care for our patients. But more than that, raising awareness on it is equally imperative. There is no one better to speak about cancer than the people who have fought and lived through it. This platform is our way of ensuring that their voices are heard. We congratulate Mr Harteij on his fighting spirit and hope to see more such people.”
Speaking on the association with SelfV, Mr. Mayank Bhargava, President, DOC Mumbai, said, “We are very happy to be associated with SelfV – the survivor stories. It is definitely a one-of-a-kind initiative and a wonderful way to salute the cancer winners’ determination in crossing their hurdles and emerging victorious”
About SelfV: To celebrate the spirit of the survivors each year this concept was created in 2014 on cancer survivors’ day called SelfV survivor stories. In this campaign we invited survivors from across the globe to shoot a Selfv (self-video) on their smart phones capturing their inspiring story of hope and victory. The idea is to provide a ray of hope for cancer patients fighting the disease, raise awareness among other survivors and the society as a whole. The videos are uploaded to https://www.facebook.com/selfv/ & http://selfv.in.
