MUMBAI, (GNI): With an aim to create awareness on the need to conserve the environment, P.D. Hinduja Hospital & MRC conducted its annual wall painting activity at the hospital with children between the ages of 5 and 12. More than 20 children participated in the wall painting activity to create awareness on the growing need for a ‘Safe & Green Environment’.
World Environment Day, globally celebrated on June 5 is an initiative started by the United Nations in 1973 to encourage the current and future generations to become agents of change in sustaining and protecting the earth’s biodiversity. This year, the theme by UN focusses on “Beat Plastic Pollution”.
Mr. Gautam Khanna, CEO, P.D. Hinduja Hospital & MRC said, “The hospital at the turn of the millennium (year 1999) was amongst the first hospital in the city to provide paper bags to patients and has over the years taken several other initiatives to minimize the use of plastic. In the last couple of years, the hospital has chosen to go public to spread the message of ‘safe environment’ by inviting children to a painting activity just outside the hospital premises. Children are the future of tomorrow and we want to spread awareness through them on the need to conserve the environment.”
Apart from wall painting, the hospital also had messengers decked in plastic bags, holding placards to convey the message of hazards of using plastic and encourage the public to step forward in successfully eliminate the use of plastics. The hospital also organized a poster competition for its employees to promote ‘Safe Environment’.
Through multiple activities like these, P.D. Hinduja Hospital has played an active role in creating awareness and conducting activities that work towards sustaining the environment.
