Dr Suhas Pednekar to be new Vice Chancellor of University of Mumbai

MUMBAI, (GNI): The Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of Universities in the State CH. Vidyasagar Rao today appointed Dr Suhas Raghunath Pednekar, Professor of Chemistry and Principal of Ramnarain Ruia Autonomous College as the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Mumbai.

The Governor handed over the letter of appointment to Dr Pednekar at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on Friday (27^th April).

Dr Pednekar has been appointed as Vice Chancellor for a period of 5 years or till attaining the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.

He succeeds Dr Sanjay Deshmukh, who was removed from the post of Vice Chancellor of the University on 24^th October 2017.

Dr Devanand Shinde, Vice Chancellor of Shivaji University, Kolhapur was holding the additional charge of the post of Vice Chancellor since then.

The Governor had constituted a Search Committee under the chairmanship of Dr. K. Kasturirangan, former chairman of ISRO to recommend to him a panel of names suitable for appointment of Vice Chancellor of the University of Mumbai.

Dr Shyam Lal Soni, Director, National Institute of Technology, Pauri (Garhwal) Uttarakhand and Bhushan Gagrani, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, CIDCO were other members of the Committee.

डॉ. सुहास पेडणेकर यांची मुंबई विद्यापीठाच्या कुलगुरुपदी नियुक्त‍ी

रसायनशास्त्राचे प्राध्यापक तसेच माटुंग्याच्या रामनारायण रुईया स्वायत्त महाविद्यालयाचे प्राचार्य डॉ सुहास रघुनाथ पेडणेकर यांची मुंबई विद्यापीठाच्या कुलगुरुपदी नियुक्ती करण्यात आली आहे. राज्यपाल तथा कुलपती चेन्नमनेनी विद्यासागर राव यांनी शुक्रवारी (दिनांक २७) डॉ पेडणेकर यांना राजभवन येथे बोलावून नियुक्तीचे पत्र सुपूर्द केले.

डॉ पेडणेकर यांची नियुक्ती कुलगुरूपदाचा कार्यभार स्वीकारल्यापासून पाच वर्षाच्या कार्यकाळासाठी किंवा ते वयाची ६५ वर्षे पूर्ण करतील तोपर्यंत (यापैकी जे अगोदर असेल ते) करण्यात आली आहे.

गेल्यावर्षी दिनांक २४ ऑक्टोबर रोजी डॉ संजय देशमुख यांना विद्यापीठाच्या कुलगुरू पदावरुन कार्यमुक्त केल्याने मुंबई विद्यापीठाचे कुलगुरूपद रिक्त झाले होते. शिवाजी विद्यापीठ, कोल्हापूरचे कुलगुरू डॉ  देवानंद शिंदे हे मुंबई विद्यापीठाच्या कुलगुरू पदाचा अतिरिक्त कार्यभार पाहत होते.

मुंबई विद्यापीठाच्या कुलगुरूंच्या निवडीसाठी राज्यपालांनी इस्रोचे माजी अध्यक्ष डॉ के कस्तुरीरंगन यांच्या अध्यक्षतेखाली निवड समिती गठीत केली होती. डॉ श्यामलाल सोनी, संचालक, राष्ट्रीय तंत्रज्ञान संस्था, पौडी गढवाल, उत्तराखंड व भूषण गगराणी, उपाध्यक्ष व व्यवस्थापकीय संचालक, सिडको हे समितीचे अन्य सदस्य होते.  Ends
