Director Ananth Narayan Mahadevan and lead actress Tannishtha Chatterjee were present at the screening with notable members of the IMC Ladies’ Wing, along with guests such as Bharat Dabholkar, Aditi Govitrikar, Tanuj Garg, Dolly Thakore, Kailash Surendranath and others.
The premiere show of the movie DOCTOR RAKHMABAI was conceptualised by Mrs. Kalpana Singhania – Past President and Advisory, led by Chairperson – Mrs. Surbhi Ghatlia and Co-Chairperson – Mrs. Neela Parikh, the dynamic cinema committee members and has been beautifully curated by Ms. Aarti Surendranath.
Directed by the National Award-Winning Director of “Mee Sindhutai Sapkal”, the film depicts the life and journey of Rakhmabai – India’s first practicing woman doctor in the tumultuous era of 1864 to 1955, the epic years that saw extreme changes in the Indian traditions and society.
Sharing her thoughts, Mrs. Nayantara Jain, President of the IMC Ladies’ Wing, “The objective of the screening is to salute the essence of woman power. DOCTOR RAKHMABAI was a feminist and social rebel and the movie echoes the struggle, spirit and success of womanhood.”
Mrs. Surbhi Ghatlia, Chairperson, Cinema Committee stated, “The Cinema Committee of the IMC Ladies’ Wing aims to present critically acclaimed, thought provoking, regional, cult films, documentaries and short films to acquaint members with different genres of cinema. We have strived to include and recognize the long standing role of Film and Theatre and its impact on society, especially women.”
Director Ananth Narayan Mahadevan said, “DOCTOR RAKHMABAI was India’s first social rebel besides being the first practicing lady doctor whose progressive nature in British India shook the Hindu society and British monarchy. Considering that India still has fewer female practicing doctors and is still plagued by gender discrimination, DOCTOR RAKHMABAI could well be the most relevant and important film of our time, when female empowerment is the need of the day and outdated norms need to be abolished to elevate social thinking.”
One of India’s most eminent not-for-profit platforms, the Ladies Wing of the IMC aims to encourage the economic development of women. It is an amalgamation of premier business and professional women’s organization with elite and progressive thinking women comprising of entrepreneurs, professionals, corporate leaders, academicians, bankers, journalists, artists, social activists and home makers who interact on variety of subjects from politics and economics to culture and development of the country, Director Ananth Narayan Mahadevan & lead actresss Tannishtha Chatterjee attend the event
