MUMBAI, (GNI): Videocon, a major consumer electronics and DTH company, along with ASSOCHAM and CEMA, today organized a GST Summit for traders where the implications of the proposed ‘one nation-one tax’ were discussed. The summit also addressed doubts raised by consumer electronics retailers. The Mumbai chapter of the ASSOCHAM CEAMA GST summit Powered by Videocon and Videocon d2h was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Sudhir Sachchidanand Mungantiwar, Minister of Finance and Planning, Government of Maharashtra graced. The seminar was also addressed by R N Dhoot, Member of Parliament and Shri Rajiv Jalota, Commissioner – Sales Tax, Maharashtra.
Mumbai is one of the 200 cities where Videocon plans to spread awareness and impart knowledge about GST, to consumer electronics trade partners. The national rollout of the ASSOCHAM-Videocon GST Summit in Delhi was welcomed by Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Finance, Government of India. He commended ASSOCHAM and Videocon for organizing the summit for the benefit of the trader community.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Sudhir Sachchidanand Mungantiwar, Minister of Finance and Planning, Government of Maharashtra said, “On 30th June, mid night the nation will see a new financial independence with the commencement of GST in India. While other countries have one tax regime, India is also moving in the same direction, which will benefit the economy. The main aim of GST it to move towards one nation, one market, one tax, one rate and end tax terrorism. Special emphasis has been put to make GST easy, accessible and convenient for people so that it curbs any misuse of power. There are 66 commodities that have been discussed in the parliament and we are trying our best not to increase the amount beyond the 17 taxes put together. Due to a lot of flexibility, the traders will benefit from this move.”
He further added, “We would like to thank Mr. Dhoot, ASSOCHAM and CEAMA for organizing this seminar as there is a lot of curiosity about GST and it will give more clarity. We assure our full support to our traders.”
Speaking about the initiative, R.N Dhoot, Member of Parliament said, “Announcement of GST in the country has been a revolutionary step. Not only will it lead to lower tax burden on several commodities, but will also bring ease of doing businesses in the country. I congratulate ASSOCHAM and Videocon to take this initiative and address retailer queries related to implementation of GST.”
