The buildings extensive renovation required deep research into historical documentation of the buildings original architectural characteristics. The project included many elements to allow the store to blend historical tradition with contemporary architecture. The Ismail store also incorporates important sustainability and energy efficiency criteria stipulated by Inditex Group, the brands parent company.
Ismail Building, built around the turn of the 20th century, follows Edwardian Neo Classical style, representing the contemporary genre of the period. It first belonged to the Sir Ismail Yusuf Trust, the family of which were among the renowned landlords in the city at the time.
