On being a part of this initiative, Mrs. Vandana Luthra, Founder, VLCC said, “I congratulate and salute Mrs. Amruta Fadnavis and Divyaj Foundation for championing the cause of acid attack victims. She has done commendable work to create awareness regarding the heinous crime of acid attack. Despite stricter laws and punishments, the number of acid attacks in India continues to increase. India has the highest number of acid attacks in the world, but the worst conviction rates. As is often the case with other crimes against women, acid attacks are treated with official apathy and societal indifference. Acid attack survivors undergo immense daily trauma. Girls are forced to drop out of school and women are unable to carry on with their jobs because of disfigurement and loss of sight. They need to be trained for suitable jobs through which they can support themselves.”
She further added, “It was truly an honour to walk next to these courageous women and men. I whole heartedly support the rehabilitation and self-sustenance of the acid attack victors. I would also like to take this platform to announce VLCC’s initiative to offer these victors with training at VLCC institutes and employment at our wellness centers”.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Women and Child Welfare Minister Pankaja Munde were the guests of honour at the event.
