MUMBAI, (GNI): The maximum city is gearing itself to host yet another season of high fashion for Lakmé Fashion Week’s Summer Resort 2017 in association with AJIO.com. In its 18th year, Lakmé Fashion Week unveiled a stellar line-up of shows, designers and creative presentations and concepts in a digital curtain raiser on its social media portals today. Going live on Facebook from JioGarden, Manish Malhotra, Purnima Lamba and Jaspreet Chandok began the reveal for the season and spoke of how the event will be bigger and better as it moves to the iconic JioGarden at Bandra Kurla Complex.
Anita Dongre, Tarun Tahiliani, Monisha Jaising, Narendra Kumar, Ritu Kumar, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Abraham & Thakore, Aneeth Arora, Falguni Shane Peacock, Payal Singhal, amongst others have come together to present the best of the fashion industry through innovative and inclusive collaborations. These and many more will be showcasing their collection from the 1st February to the 5th February 2017, at an all new venue- JioGarden, Mumbai.
Since its inception, Lakmé Fashion Week has set its sights on new trends, strived to promote young talent, taken the lead on the digital front, kick-started fresh conversations on beauty and has transformed India’s premier fashion week into a global platform. This season too will witness a perfect amalgamation of upcoming talent and the industry’s most established names that will set an unparalleled benchmark of inclusivity, diversity, creativity, technology and fresh energy.
This season’s model audition in Mumbai was highly successful and five fresh faces were selected to walk the ramp including Anjali Lama, Nepal’s first transgender model.
International talent at the Lakmé Fashion Week includes Petr Nitka, the first gender neutral model;Varsha Thapa, supermodel who has walked International runways and International make-up artist and LFW’s official make-up expert, Donald Simrock will make a return at the upcoming season of Lakmé Fashion Week after a successful session last season.

- LAKMÉ GRAND FINALE – ANITA DONGRE
Preserving the rich heritage of India, celebrated prêt-à-porter designer, Anita Dongre has created a couture collection that is versatile enough to transcend people, places and occasions. A line that effortlessly fuses a variety of styles, silhouettes and designs to offer customers fashion that is global chic. The audience can expect a stunning show as her collection will be inspired by Lakmé’s beauty statement for the season – ‘Liquid Gold’.
- OPENING SHOW – FIRST EVER FASHION SHOW ON A CRUISE BY MONISHA JAISING
Acclaimed fashion designer, Monisha Jaising is set to open Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017 on the luxury cruise liner, Costa neoClassica. She will be showcasing her Summer/Resort ’17 collection that gives a sense of drama, glitz, ultra-glam outfits that emphasize sharp angles and play with varying tones throughout the collection.
- 6 DEGREES STUDIO
The much-loved experimental space, Stage One will this season be renamed as ‘Studio’ and will focus on conceptual themes in fashion such as Art, Sustainability, Theatre and much more. Emerging designers – who are the best of the Gen Next alumni such as Naushad Ali, Jayanti Reddy, Gaurav Khanijo, Sohaya Misra, Paridhi Jaipuria will be showcasing their Summer/Resort 2017 collections here. Cerebrated designers such as Dev R Nil, Savio Jon, Sanjukta Dutta, Mandeep Nagi and a lot more will be participating in this space with their individual artistic initiatives.
- INIFD PRESENTS GEN NEXT SHOW
v INIFD will once again be the official knowledge partner for Lakmé Fashion Week for the 156h consecutive season and will present the prestigious Gen Next show at LFW SR 2017. This collaboration between fashion and education is an attempt to integrate knowledge sharing among the Indian fashion fraternity. The 5 labels making their debut are Ishanee Mukherjee and Anirudh Chawla “Poochki”, Pallavi Singh “Arcvsh”, Nakita Singh, Soumodeep Dutta and Resham Karamchandani and Sanya Suri – “The Pot Plant”
- SUSTAINABLE FASHION AND INDIAN TEXTILE DAY
The much loved and the unique property that pays tribute to the rich heritage of Indian hand-woven luxury season after season. Designers like Rajesh Pratap Singh, Aneeth Arora, Abraham and Thakore, Naushad Ali, Soham Dave, among others will present India’s rare and finest concepts. Moreover, there will be a show by IMG Reliance Ltd dedicated to Kutch artisans during the day that will showcase artisans from kutch as designers such as Somaiya Kala Vidya, Chaman Siju, Sufiyan with Madame Hall, Shrujan. Speaking about the upcoming season, Purnima Lamba – Head of Innovation at Lakmé said, “Inspired by the Gold of Argan Oil, we present Lakmé’s resplendent new make-up statement for 2017. “Liquid Gold” will find expression in the new range of lipsticks to be launched in March – the Lakmé Absolute Argan Oil Lip Color, that blends rich color with nourishment. Anita Dongre was an organic choice to bring to life the Liquid Gold statement through her intricate design. We welcome her to her first LFW finale
