MUMBAI, (GNI): Markets opened for the day with minor gains over yesterday’s closing levels and remained sideways throughout the day amidst lack of fresh cues from both domestic and international markets. Nifty was seen trading in a narrow channel of around 20 pts for most part of the day’s trading session. Among day’s major market moving events, shares of GM Breweries corrected by more than 6.36% intraday on NSE after the company posted weak Q3 results. GM Breweries announced a 36.42% fall in its net profits to Rs 9.9 Crores for Q3FY17 quarter against Rs 15.57 Crores logged in the same quarter the previous fiscal. Shares of Wockhardt remained in action today after the German regulator issued European Union Good Manufacturing Practice certificate to the company’s Ankleshwar plant in Gujarat. The stock was up by 8.12% intraday on NSE over the news. On the global front, Asian peer markets posted mixed bag of performance. Nikkei 225 and Shanghai were marginally down by 0.34% and 0.35% respectively while Hang Seng was up by 0.21% for the day.
Nifty closed for the day at 8243 pts, down by 0.36% or 30 pts over Thursday’sclosing levels. Nifty made an intraday high of 8306 pts and low of 8233 pts in the day. Similarly, BSE Sensex opened for the day at 26929 pts, made a high of 27009 pts, a low of 26733 pts and closed for the day at 26759 pts, down by 119 pts or 0.44% over yesterday’s closing levels. Overall market breadth for the day remained negative and advances to declines ratio for Nifty stood at 22:29 for the day. Volumes for Nifty stocks stood at 1435 lacs, lower than yesterday’s volumes of 1639 lacs for Nifty stocks. Sector wise, markets posted mixed bag of performance. Banks, Pharma and Financials gained while IT, Realty and FMCG corrected in the day. Among Nifty stocks, Yes Bank, Kotak Bank and Eicher Motors were the top performing stocks with a gain of 3.25%, 2.28% and 2.27% respectively. Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech and Idea were at the bottom of Nifty’s charts with a correction of 3.98%, 3.69% and 2.61% respectively. Rupee/Dollar rates on NSE for near month futures opened for the day at 67.9975 levels, made a high of 68.1950, a low of 67.93 and is trading at 68.16 levels currently.ends
